Mission & Stewardship Committee

The Committee's job is to administer the Mission budget adopted by the Church and to monitor needs as they arise during the year.  We then respond to these needs by using a portion of the Mission budget set aside for this purpose.  Naturally all expenditures are approved in advance by the Session.  The Committee is also responsible for planning and conducting our annual Stewardship campaign.  In addition to the budget administration and the annual campaign, the Committee spends a great deal of time working with our Drift, Kentucky Mission Project which is now in its 25th year.

Drift, KY is an impoverish area due to a high sulfur coal that is no longer in demand.  Doreen Martin insures that the necessities of daily living is provided to 189 needy families and even has a Christmas store that helps almost 500 people annually.

This year we collected well in excess of 14,000 pounds of goods filling a 55 foot trailer.  This was the most ever!  Without our volunteers, Nancy Koletar, Dorothy Davis, Shirley Donaldson, Harriet Kubicar, Phil Silcott, Doug Kearns and many others, this mission could not have succeeded.  In addition a huge thank you is due to Jan Henderson and South Hill Movers for the transportation and the trailer donation.  Thank you to all for making this such a success!  This summer we sponsored a book bag collection for Drift collecting hundreds of book bags filled with school supplies. These were delivered to the mission by Fred and Sherry Simpson.

Our goal is to double the budget of the Church during the next three years and to fully support all missions that are currently budgeted and maintain a healthy surplus allowing us to react monetarily when such needs arise.

The Committee meets monthly and in 2007 consisted of Phil Silcott, Nancy Koletar, Doug Kearns, Sherry Simpson, Lance Dobrowski, Karen Jingleski and Brad Day, Chairman.
