BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Trustees, a nine-member Board, meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.
The Board has the following responsibilities: to receive, hold, encumber, manage, and transfer property, real or personal, for the church; to accept and execute deeds of title to such property; to hold and defend title to such property; to manage any permanent special funds for the furtherance of the purposes of the church, all subject to the authority of the session and under the provisions of the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA), provided further that in buying, selling, and mortgaging real property, the trustees shall act only after the approval of the congregation granted in a duly constituted meeting.
The Trustees, in support of the “Investing in Our Future” campaign, completed a thorough review and future needs assessment of our buildings and grounds. To assist in this task a contract was awarded to McKinley and Associates, an architectural firm based in Wheeling, WV, with a branch office located in Washington, PA. This Trustees project was the main focus and thrust of our attention for 2007. When completed, 50+ potential work items had been reviewed. GENERAL INFORMATION for 2007
The Trustees recommended to Session that a $125,000 line-of-credit be established by the Trustees to assist the Church in having working capital available to use until the “Investing in Our Future” campaign funds are realized. This recommendation was approved by Session and by the congregation at the annual Congregational Meeting.
As was noted above, a contract was awarded to L.W. Miller Roofing, Inc. to remove and install new shingles on the C.E. Building.
The Canonsburg Police were summoned in September due to the theft of copper downspouts attached to the C.E. Building. Given the Church’s insurance deductible, white aluminum replacements were installed by L.W. Miller while completing the new roof job.
As was noted above, John Svitek Masonry, LLC, was awarded a contract to remove 5 AC units-repair the wall openings, replace 2 lintels, re-point cracks, and re-point rear chimney on C.E. Building.
A contract was also awarded to Ted Skepanski Services Inc. to clean and stretch carpet to chosen areas in the C.E. Building and Sanctuary at a cost of $1,370.
A cleaning contract for the kitchen range hood, located in Fellowship Hall, was awarded to ABCO Company. This work has been completed at a cost of $282.
The Trustees, for 2008, will be scheduling a meeting in January with the Oak Spring Cemetery, Board of Directors, to determine how, and to what extent Canonsburg UP Church can be of assistance to them. This item was discussed and approved by the Session at the November meeting.
The Trustees, along with the Session, approved an Eagle Scout project for Ron Boehmer. This project entailed the building of a garage/storage facility which measures 24x36. The project is currently under construction. Financial and material donations are still needed to complete this ambitious project. Please contact Ron Boehmer with your gifts through the Church. The Trustees, in an effort to maximize available storage, recommended to Session, that all committee chairpersons be asked to assess their storage areas and determine what items are of use and to discard those items that are not.
A memo addressed to the Trustees dated November 19, 2007, from the financial secretary, requesting a time extension for the annual financial audit was granted. The audit will be rescheduled for completion by March 31, 2008.
The Board of Trustees, Bob Hughes/President, Joe Falascino/Vice President, Beth Hunt/Secretary, Members; Kelly Alderson, Wendy Lucas, Dan Miller, Rick Morrow, Sue Reinders, and Fred Simpson all wish to extend our sincere appreciation to Rev. Hamilton, the Monday Crew, the Clerical Staff, and all Volunteers who in one way or another contributed guidance, time, and service throughout the year.
