The Canonsburg UP Church Music Ministry

The purpose of this department is to support the scriptures of our faith through the ministry of music. Our goals are to provide the highest quality of music as possible while supporting the congregation in worship. This past year continued to be a great year within the department. The music staff has developed new musical groups and enhanced the existing. There is strength in numbers and this department has over 78 participants making it one of the largest continually meeting groups in the church. If you are looking for a means to support our church with your time, this may be the avenue you’re looking for. There is something for everyone!

The Cherub Choir

The Cherub Choir - Under the direction of Louellen Zaharko the Cherub Choir is a group made up of pre and elementary school students. Louellen has done a great job in the development of this choir not only in part singing but also the development of solo singers. It is an energetic and enthusiastic group. They meet in the Youth Room Sunday mornings at 9:00am.  Parental encouragement for participation is greatly appreciated. 

Hi Choir

The Hi Choir - This group is now several years old. It consists of students in secondary school. We currently have 18 participants. This group sings some of the newer sacred music arranged for choir. We also are blessed with some fine young soloists in this group. We meet in the Choir Room on Sunday mornings from 9:00am until the start of Sunday School. The Hi Choir will perform monthly .We ask parents to please support this group by encouraging their teen’s participation. The more the merrier!

The Bell Choir

The Bell Choir - This group is now in its 16^th year. It has become a very recognized choir in the area. We now have a good solid core of ringers which means that we are now performing at a level 6, which is the most difficult music written for handbells.  They perform monthly. We anticipate several outings this next year. Their rehearsal is on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM in the bell room.

The Chancel Choir

 The Chancel Choir  - What a choir we have! These dedicated choir members perform a minimum of two works of music weekly. This choir also includes many soloists, duets and trios that embellish our worship services with their special music. The Choir has had a busy year beginning with hosting a Choir Festival that had 6 other area churches participating with a mass choir of over 100 singers. The choir also participated in First Christian Church’s annual Hymn Sing. We are concluding this year with a Vesper Service, two identical services for Christmas and of course, the Christmas Eve service. In all, the choir sang 30 different pieces of music just in December! Our future is looking bright. We have had a growth spurt adding 5 new members.  The Men’s section came on strong this year and has made a large difference in the choir’s sound. Our largest need this year is in the Soprano section. We can always use more in the other sections also. So, don’t be shy. Come join us in singing the praise of Jesus. We meet Wednesday evenings in the Choir Room at 7:30 PM.
