Celebrating Jesus During Holy Week

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”” - Luke 22:19

Dear Friends,

We have been experiencing a Lenten season like no other, and now, we are on the cusp of Holy Week! Obviously, this Holy Week will be different. It will be VERY different. But… I wanted to share some exciting news that we are in process of finding ways to bring some of the best elements of our cherished worship and celebrations to this new reality!

Here’s what I know at this time:

1) We will celebrate communion this Palm Sunday, as scheduled. We invite everyone participating in worship to supply and receive the elements during the service together.

2) We will host a Maundy Thursday service, online, at 7:00 PM, where we will again celebrate communion, in the same manner as Sunday, inviting everyone participating in worship to supply and receive the elements during the service together.

3) We will host the Prayer Vigil, online via Facebook Live, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 11. Log in if you like and pray with the image of the sanctuary cross as a comforting guide. We encourage everyone to pray for our church, community, country and world during this time especially!

4) We will provide 100 Home Communion packets for Special Friends and others who are unable to join us for communion live together. In them will be a short liturgy with scripture and prayers and the elements, to celebrate during this most important season! Delivery of these will happen during the latter half of Holy week and we are tentatively scheduling Friday 1:00-3:00 PM for people interested in picking these up.

And of course, regardless of whether we will be together in person, that doesn’t change the fact that Jesus rose from the dead! We WILL celebrate the risen Savior on Easter, with a joyful service online, which will be posted to our website and Youtube following the live stream on Facebook.

This is a brave new world we’re living in today. And while it’s a continual surprise to us, it’s no surprise to God. While it shakes us and concerns us and causes us even to panic-buy toilet paper, God is not shaken, nor concerned, nor panicked. And while we can’t gather together to celebrate this amazing God in the way that we normally would this Easter… just imagine that first Sunday when we finally can again. It will truly be an Easter celebration of the risen Christ!

Welcoming people to Grow in Jesus,

Pastor Don
