What Time Is It?

“Blessed is the one who reads the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” Revelation 1:3

Dear Friends,

What time is it? What day is it?

If you’re anything like me, you may be having some issues keeping track of where we’re at and a regular rhythm right now. I see the memes, the posts, the messages all the time and I hear it in my own home too!

Our sense of time - whether it’s losing our place, or the looming sense of pending dread - is something that’s given me pause. I’ve heard questions and concerns in many places about what these “times” might be. And what we should do during this time.

Personally, I don’t have an answer. If I told you I did… I’d be lying. I’d prefer to avoid that.

But… there are… answers. Ultimately, our answer is Jesus Christ. Our present circumstances, our lives, our hope and our future, rest in Jesus. God revealed himself to us, absolutely and most perfectly, in Jesus. And yet, saying “Jesus is the answer” seems a bit unsatisfying. That’s a hard place to stand.

And so we look for more answers. We look for more specific answers, more concrete answers, more complicated answers.

For many Christians and for non-Christians too, the questions about our times drives us to the final book in the Bible - Revelation. It’s filled with fantastic imagery, many who’ve made it into our popular culture and language - beasts and serpents, bowls of wrath, trumpets and horsemen - it’s impacted us without us even realizing it!

At a time where we’re tempted to imagine about our times, I believe it may be time to take a journey through this final book of the Bible. I believe it’s time to allow God to speak to us - as opposed to allowing bits and pieces of imagery and cultural adaptations from it to fill our minds. For the month of May, we’re going to spend time Sunday mornings in Revelation. I do hope you’ll join us. Let’s open our ears, our minds and our hearts to what God has to tell us, setting aside our own anxieties and pre-conceived notions (as best we can). I think it will be valuable!

Also - this Sunday we will once again celebrate communion as part of our worship service. For anyone interested, you can stop by the church and pick up pre-prepared communion elements - as long as they last - Thursday 9am - 2pm or Friday (please call first on Friday 724-745-0800).

If we keep focused on Jesus - hearts, minds and bodies - we’re going to be in good shape, no matter what time it is!

Welcoming people to Grow in Jesus,

Pastor Don
