How Can I Help?
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” - Galatians 6:2
“How can I help?”
That’s a question that plagues many of us when we see a friend, neighbor or family member struggling. When they grieve a family member, we wonder how we can help. When they’re sick, we wonder if we can make a meal. When they lose their job, we wonder how we can pitch in. We care, so we want to help.
One issue that continues to plague our community is the disease of opioid addiction. It claimed a grandchild of our church just a few weeks ago.
Again we ask, “How can I help?”
The mayor and other civic leaders have been trying to answer this for quite awhile. One piece of the pie has been the dream of opening a Cafe where proceeds will go towards programs, where resources will be available and where people, any people, regardless of whether they’re looking for help, encouragement or just a good cup of coffee with a friend, are welcome.
“Fresh Start Cafe” continues to take steps towards opening across from us on Pike Street. Earlier this summer, our Mission & Stewardship Team pledged $5,000 to help complete the facade. Work has been slow but it’s coming together. And now, All Saints Greek Orthodox church is pledging the proceeds from tomorrow’s Gyro Thursday to match those proceeds!
“How can I help?” Right now, it’s as simple as going to All Saints on Thursday for lunch (11am-2pm), or take it home for dinner! I’ll be there right around 12pm and hope to see you too.
I’m grateful for the way that we can partner together - not just in our tiny corner of the Christian church, or West Canonsburg - but across denominational lines, across neighborhoods, across ethnicities, ideologies and pre-conceived, to make Canonsburg a little closer to the Kingdom of God, here and now.
Thanks in advance for helping and for
Welcoming people to Grow in Jesus!
