Shelter of the Most High
“You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day” - Psalm 91:5
When you misplace important tax documents, right before you’re set to file your taxes, it’s understandable to get anxious.
When the stock market drops so far, so fast, that they close trading for a time, it’s understandable to get anxious.
When you discover your neighbor has been diagnosed with a serious disease, and the World Health Organization declares a Pandemic, it’s understandable to get anxious.
If you’ve found yourself concerned, anxious or worried this week by these things or anything else, well, you’re not alone. You’re in good company. And while I hope you’re getting the most accurate information, the best help, and the most helpful care in whatever situation you find yourself - I hope and pray that you’re not ignoring the most vital information: God’s Word.
God speaks in many ways, and chief among them is through the Scriptures.
Psalm 91 has some poignant words for us right now:
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God in whom I trust.”
Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousands at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
In this time of increased anxiety, worry and fear - be wise and diligent, be informed, and rest in the shelter of the Most High and allow God to be your refuge! Pray your way through Psalm 91 and allow God to restore your peace!
