"Better Than It Was"

“I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.” - Psalm 119:176

Dear Friends,

When’s the last time you got lost?

Now that everyone has an entire world-atlas in the palm of their hands, maybe it’s been awhile. So better question, when is the last time you’ve felt lost?

That’s the theme that we’re going to explore in a couple weeks with our Family Ministry program - an expanded Sonshine Station over the course of a week, where each day, families will have the opportunity to watch a silly skit, memorize a bible verse, play a game and do a craft. It’s not quite VBS, but under our current conditions, it sure is an exciting opportunity!

This whole endeavor is much like being lost itself. It’s being in between your starting point and your destination. Which is exactly where we are right now.

Ideally, we’d like to “get back” to where we were as a church and as a community. We’d like to be gathering on Sunday mornings for worship, for Small Groups, for Sonshine Station, for Prayer Groups for Ministry Teams and Mission Teams and Vacation Bible School… and we’re working towards it all… but it doesn’t yet feel like it did. We look around and nothing really feels familiar at all.

We can kind of feel lost.

That’s natural.

Let me level with you - I feel a bit lost too.

And part of the problem… is looking in the wrong direction.

Like the Hebrews on their journey to the promised land, looking back to where we’ve been, what we’ve enjoyed and how things have looked is not going to give us any sense of stability and security.

We’re not going back to Egypt.

And while we aren’t exactly sure where we are going, all of what gathering and worshipping, serving and sharing, giving and growing is going to look like in the future, the best news of all is that we don’t have to figure it out on our own. Just as the Hebrews might have felt lost on their journey, they weren’t actually lost, as long as they kept faith and kept faith with the presence of God who was leading them forward.

Friends, no matter how we feel, we’re not lost. With our hearts, our minds and our eyes fixed on Jesus, we will eventually get to wherever we need to be, and because of Jesus, it’s going to be… hang in there… better than it was!

I’m excited to be able to share this message with our kids in the coming days and I expect we’ll be taking a closer look at that together as well.

Welcoming people to Grow in Jesus,

Pastor Don
