Committed to Grow

“All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.” - Isaiah 54:13

Dear Friends,

This Sunday we have a few things going on in and around worship - we’ll be celebrating the sacrament of communion, we’ll be holding a brief congregational meeting following the second service to elect officers (and you can join via zoom if you’re not able to join in person, see info below), and it’s also Commitment Sunday.

As I’ve said before, this year’s commitment is a little different than most years past. Usually we’ve carved out time to talk about our financial stewardship and asked members to commit financially to the mission and ministry of CUPC in the coming year. But I don’t need to tell you that this year is… different. While some of us are living on fixed incomes that don’t change based on the economy, some of us are working jobs that have been tremendously impacted by the pandemic, the shutdowns and quarantines. In these situations it can be tremendously difficult to estimate what life will be like next month, let alone next year. So instead, we’re going to let God stretch us and grow our faith.

What we’re asking of you this year, is simply to commit to growing at Canonsburg UP in 2021.

I believe very strongly that God has great things in store for us, that God wants us to grow - personally and as a community. I believe that God wants our faith to grow, that God wants our hope to grow, that God wants our peace, our joy and our love to Grow. While we’re certainly talking about that this Advent, we’ll be talking more and more about it in the coming year.

God loves us just as we are. But God loves us so much, that God isn’t satisfied with leaving us just as we are. God wants us to grow.

Join us this Sunday as we commit to growing in 2021. That growth happens as we gather in large and small groups - and during this pandemic, those “large” groups aren’t quite as large, but those small groups are so absolutely vital! We grow as we give to each other and the community around us, our time, our talents and our financial treasure. And we grow as we go intentionally, back to our homes, back to our work, out into the world recognizing we can make a difference in the lives of others by sharing with them!

I look forward to this coming year with you here at Canonsburg UP!

Committed to Growing in Jesus with you,

Pastor Don
