Growing in Patience

"Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains." - James 5:7

Dear Friends,

I am not, by nature, a patient person.

Any patience that I have exhibited in my life is either a learned behavior or the absolute grace of God at work despite me!

Doubt me? Sit shotgun on a car ride with me!

And yet, patience seems to be one of the most important and necessary qualities during this season.

So much of what I was excited about a year ago has been put on hold or changed completely. I was excited to go to Mars with 250 kids in our community… but I got lost in the woods instead! I was excited to go back to Honduras to connect with our partners in Lomas del Aguila… but I've only been able to watch videos from afar. On a personal side, I was looking forward to visiting with family and friends this Summer back in Canada… but videoconferencing has had to do.

We all want to "get back to normal," and 8+ months into this pandemic, it's hard to be patient.

It's hard to be patient in an instant-answer, instant-gratification world where seemingly every piece of information ever known is accessible at our fingertips. And yet, it's more important than ever.

Two thousand years ago, Jesus told his closest friends that he needed to step out for a bit. He promised he was leaving in order to prepare a place for them and that when everything was ready, he'd return for them… but in the meantime, he would send a helper to get them through.

As we stand here today, you and I are still waiting on Jesus' return. We've been asked to be patient and promised that he and his kingdom WILL COME. And for all of those anxious moments - for all of those non-anxious moments too - we have been gifted with the person, power and presence of a helper. We have the Holy Spirit, who IS God, with us right now.

This is a very difficult season to be living in, to be leading in, and to be patient in. But I PROMISE that being patient in the Lord will PAY OFF!

Today, tomorrow and every day going forward, I invite you to GROW in patience as you rest in the PRESENCE of God!

Welcoming YOU to Grow in Jesus,

Pastor Don
