Learning This Lent

“Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.” - Proverbs 9:9

Dear Friends,

I’m so excited!

Yes, I’m a bit of a nerd, a geek, and I get really excited to learn and make connections. Over the past days and weeks, I’ve been learning so much and I can’t wait to share this with you over the next six weeks, leading up to Easter!

Last year at this time, our world was in the process of being thrown for a loop - a wrench we didn’t expect was being tossed in and it completely disrupted our plans. In fact, it’s safe to say that we’re still having our plans disrupted and we’re still doing a bit of “making it up as we go along.” So, we’re going to lean into that in a couple of ways this Lent.

First, we’re not just doing “Lent as usual” - going back to all of the ways we’ve worshipped and celebrated for years and years. BUT… we’re not throwing the baby out with the bathwater either! Tonight’s Ash Wednesday service will, in fact, look VERY similar to years past - aside from individual communion elements. We’ll be broadcasting it on Facebook & YouTube, so that those who are unable or uncomfortable about gathering in-person, can still worship together.

Second, we’re going “way back” to the history of God’s interaction with his people, tracing God’s saving work, centered around the Passover, and connecting with Jesus’ Easter actions, our salvation and God’s ongoing work through the Holy Spirit today!

In the midst of this, I’m learning and seeing a ton of things I didn’t know before - and it’s causing me to become even more grateful and more inspired by God than I was. What’s more, I’m truly excited for you to see and hear what I’ve been learning, for you to make these connections and for you to be more thankful and more inspired by the God who loved you at the dawn of creation, loves you this day, and will love you forever and ever, amen!

And one more thing… I’m excited to creatively connect what God’s done, with our daily lives through something we all do - eat! Each Sunday, we’ll not only be introduce to an element of the traditional Passover celebration meal, but we’ll also learn a simple dish, inspired by that element! While we may not be gathering for large meals just yet, we can prepare for them by spending some time in our own test kitchens, learning and trying new recipes!

Let’s keep learning and growing through this season of Lent - I firmly believe, God’s got lots of awesome things to teach us, and we’ll be so blessed through them!

Welcoming you to Grow in Jesus this Lenten season and beyond!

Pastor Don
