Let's Open Some Doors

“Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.” - 2 Corinthians 4:1

Dear Friends, What a sight to see! When Sunday’s service ended, both our 8:30 AM service in the sanctuary and our 11:15 AM service at the Park, I looked out and saw people gathering together, huddled up, talking, praying and ministering to each other. It was awesome! It was awesome, because it’s simply part of what it means to be part of a church, a community of faith - listen to, to care for, support, pray for each other! But as I was reminded on Sunday, sometimes it takes an invitation. I was so excited to see elders, deacons and leaders step up to minister, and to hear some of the encouraging messages afterward. The next day, I got an e-mail, that basically said, “while my situation didn’t fit exactly what you were talking about, you opened the door for me to share, and I’m so glad I did!” Not every person will walk through every door we open. Not every invitation for coffee, lunch, drinks, will be reciprocated by another person. But you know what? NO ONE walks through a door that doesn’t open at all. I hope that we can stretch ourselves and do more and more impromptu ministry like this, as we’re gathered - whether it’s Sunday for worship, during or after ministry team meetings, or anything else. The more we do it, the more we will see the kind of impact and growth we want for each other. So let’s stretch our muscles, and offer a few more invitations. No, we won’t always get a “yes” - but I tell you, I can’t recall anyone ever turning down being prayed for, even people who claim not to believe in God have accepted me praying for them, right then and there. This Sunday is a perfect opportunity for an invitation, and for more ministry. Following the 11:15 AM worship service at the McClelland Pavilion at North Strabane Park, we’ll be having a picnic lunch. First, YOU are invited! Even if you’re just reading this post randomly from our website or Facebook, YOU are invited! Regardless of whether you join us for worship in the sanctuary at 8:30 AM, the park at 11:15a AM, or not at all. YOU are invited to join us for a picnic lunch. We encourage you to bring a side to share… but also, if you can’t, just come anyway! Second, INVITE someone else! Maybe it’s someone who you haven’t seen in worship in awhile. Maybe it’s a neighbor who’s never worshipped with us. Maybe it’s a random stranger you see throughout the week - INVITE them to join us for a wonderful meal, and a chance to be encouraged! Finally, remember, GOD will be present. And therefore, it’s an opportunity to minister to people, to listen to them, to encourage them, to pray for them and support them (not FIX them). I PROMISE that if we do this, we’ll be encouraged too! Welcoming YOU to Grow in Jesus, Pastor Don
