Working Behind the Scenes

“Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:12

Dear Friends, Maybe, just maybe, we’ve weathered the worst of the winter… weather! Of course, I’m holding out hope that there’ll be two inches of fresh snow up in Jennerstown at Pine Springs Camp in three weeks when we head up for the Winter Retreat - which there is STILL room for you, by the way! I’m so excited we can return to this after a COVID year without it. Whether you are married or single, young or old, have babies, toddlers, elementary aged, teenagers, grown or no children at all - you’re part of the CUPC Family and you’re invited! Details are to the left in "News and Events" or you can contact the church office. Aside from that though, if you ventured out this weekend or early this week, if you gathered with us in-person for worship, you may have caught that our driveway between the Sanctuary/Fellowship Hall and the CE/Office was a mess with slippery ice. While we’ve got a great and faithful plow guy (Greg), there are just some times when a mix of conditions make even the hardest workers unable to keep up. Sunday and Monday were that for us here. So, I want to commend our Trustees, who after Sunday’s meeting are transitioning to be the “Buildings & Grounds Ministry Team” - but doing all of the same work, focused on the repair, maintenance and renovation of our physical campus here at 112 West Pike Street in Canonsburg. I want to commend them for jumping into action - paying attention to the ice situation, doing their best to mitigate the problem, and determining an alternate plan when things got out of hand. Your safety was at the top of their minds - and despite the mess of all of that ice, we didn’t have any issues or falls Sunday related to worship, our children and youth ministries or the UP With Kids Childcare early this week. Most of the work that this Ministry Team (Trustees) have done in the past doesn’t get noticed. Replacing light fixtures, urinals, heating controllers… in fact, they usually only get noticed when something goes wrong and needs an emergency fix. And yet, they are tirelessly working behind the scenes, getting bids and mapping out what kinds of work needs to be done to our campus to keep it not only safe, but inviting and appealing… welcoming for our community, so they would encounter the absolutely awesome love of Jesus Christ. I hope you’ll continue to thank the outgoing Trustees - Dan Dodd and Tom Lawrence, welcome back John Walker, and also consider if you have gifts and talents related to “Buildings and Grounds” that you might want to offer as we transition this Ministry Team forward. Also - if you missed the Annual Meeting, you can check out a video of some ministry highlights on our website or social media, and download the annual report, or pick one up in worship still. Thank you to all who in so many different ways, help us fulfill our mission, Welcoming You to Grow in Jesus, Pastor Don
