Stop….and Take a Moment to Pray
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message” – John 17:10
Dear Friends,As we talked about prayer and were invited into the practice of praying, and journaling about it, I want to simply extend that invitation further, with an offering of one of the most beautiful and consequential prayers of our age. Written by the pastor and theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, the first section has been adopted by the Recovery Community, but the entire prayer is a worthwhile endeavor.
So, rather than wax on about prayer, I simply offer you an opportunity to actually pray, using this prayer today or this week.
Welcoming You to Grow in Jesus,
Pastor Don
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.
Amen.
Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
