FAQ

Whether you are a first time guest, frequent visitor or simply checking us out online, here's some information about what you can expect during a Sunday Morning at Canonsburg UP!

Welcome from the Pastor
Welcome from the Pastor

Thanks for checking us out online!  I hope you’ll take another step and listen to a sermon or join us on a Sunday for worship.  I believe that we are all looking for a life overflowing with purpose and peace, laughter and love and I believe that we find this life as we follow Jesus.

Following Jesus isn’t easy and we don’t always get it right.  But at Canonsburg UP Church, we are committed to growing disciples who love Jesus and their neighbor.  We believe this happens as we Gather in large and smaller groups to worship and study, as we Go into the community with a message of hope and Give our time, talents and treasure to others.  As we Grow, we experience real life.

Wherever you are on your journey, I invite you to take a step and grow with us.  We’ll make room for you!

What is the Sunday Schedule?

8:30 AM – Worship Service

9:45 AM – Sonshine Station Youth Program / Adult Sunday School

11:00 AM – Worship Service

Our services are approximately an hour long.

Where should I park?

Parking is available in the large lot located next to the Post Office. We also have handicap accessible parking directly behind the sanctuary building. You are also permitted to park at the Frank Sarris Library on Sunday morning without a permit.

What should I wear?
Since we worship a God who put on human flesh to come to us—in all our flaws and mess—we worship however we feel comfortable. Some may like the comfort of blue jeans, while others may like the discipline of putting on ties and Sunday dresses. So you are invited to gather in whatever makes you comfortable.
What are the services like?

Our worship is traditional in nature with a mix of modern music and beloved hymns. The services include scripture readings, a Children’s Moment, a scripturally focused message by the Pastor and music played by instrumentalists, soloists or one of our choirs. Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month.

Is the Sanctuary handicap accessible?

Yes! Our Sanctuary is handicap accessible with both an elevator lift to transport individuals from the Fellowship Hall to the Sanctuary as well as an exterior ramp entrance into the Sanctuary.

What do you provide for children?

In addition to nursery care which is offered at both services for infants through age 5, we have a wide range of ministries and activities for children.

On Sunday during worship service, children are invited to the front of the church for “Children’s Moment”, a special kid-friendly message presented by Pastor Don.

Every Sunday between services ( at 9:45 AM), children in Preschool through 6th grade are invited to Sonshine Station – a place where kids can learn and grow in God’s love.

If your family is in need of childcare during the week, the church has a Childcare Center, UP with Kids, onsite for kids ages 6 weeks through Pre-Kindergarten.

What do you believe at CUPC?
We believe that each and every person is a Beloved Child of God. We are Image Bearers, created with the capacity and responsibility to reflect the image of God to the world around us. We are Chosen to tell our stories of God’s love in our lives and Free to live a life marked by God’s grace. We are all unique individuals, invited to live unique lives, but United by the one True God who revealed himself to us in Jesus Christ.
We believe that Jesus’ teaches us the best way to live – Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. He lived this life himself and confirmed the truth of it by rising from the dead and providing a way for us to live this life too.
We believe the Holy Spirit is our companion and empowers us to live this life, speaks to us through the Bible and guides us to a knowledge and experience of God who is our Gracious Father.
And we follow in a two thousand year history of women and men who have bowed their knee to Jesus as their Lord, tried to live their lives following him, finding his message of hope to be filled with joy and freedom for this life and eternity. They have articulated their faith in many ways, including creeds and confessions, which we confirm and practicing lives of generosity, radical hospitality, love and grace.
Our particular branch of believers in Jesus, the Presbyterian Church (USA) is part of the Reformed Tradition which has historically proclaimed that God’s Grace alone, received by Faith alone, understood through the Scriptures alone which point to Christ alone, is what saves us and we celebrate that to God’s Glory alone.
We invite you to join us for worship and discover first hand what we believe as we seek to follow Jesus together.
