You Know…

“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.” – Psalm 139
Dear Friends,

Over the past 15 months, I’ve been taking part in a program for Spiritual Formation and Direction that has been a tremendous gift.  It’s impacted the way I preach, teach, lead, visit and just be with others.  Mostly, it’s been in little ways, although I continue to think through about potential larger, structural ways that this might show up in our church.

While I was away last month, one morning we were given a prompt for a short devotional reflection.  It was Psalm 139, and “you know me” was what struck me.  The idea that God knows us, knows me, and still loves me, and that at just the right time, God is also revealing myself to me – that I’m learning about who I am, the person that God already knows, and still loves.

The echoes of this have continued for me over the past couple of weeks, and so I figured that maybe God was prompting me to share the poem I wrote with you.  I did so, along with another, when we gathered for our final evening together.  I was shocked by the response.  So, I hope you find some comfort in this, some encouragement today.

Welcoming You to Grow in Jesus, one little bit of knowledge at a time,

Pastor Don

You Know
Don Coleman

You know
already
You know
and yet
still
You love

me
as I am
as I was
as I will be
Me
wrapped in your warm embrace
seen
and known
Truly

And you reveal
Myself to me
One tear at a time,
One glistening raindrop,
One ray of sunlight,
Your light
Just right
Just as I needed
Just when I needed
because
You know.

And still I say,
You know…
