Light the Night
Friday and Saturday, we’re going to Light up the Night!
It’s our annual Laser Light Spectacular – 6:00 pm & 7:30 pm Friday and 5:00 pm & 6:30 pm Saturday. It’s an absolutely joyful celebration every year, and this will be no exception. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, don’t worry, there’s still room for you.
Just a few days away from the shortest day of the year, filled with the most darkness, it’s such a wonderful gift to have that light shine, right? I remember years ago when I would hear from older family members as they agonized about that lack of sunlight and their seeming seasonal affective disorder suffering, and I didn’t think too much about it. But over the years, I’ve noticed how much I do feel the loss, the lack of sunlight. It has its way on me and in me, even if I don’t realize it in the moment.
So, when a light shines into the midst of my darkness, it matters. It brings with it hope and joy – it’s real, true, good news.
The message of Jesus is what lights up our lives if we let it, and it comes right at that perfect time. It comes in our darkest moments, when we’re uncertain and unsure and reaching for something – and there’s Jesus, to show us the way. Sometimes just a single word, just a sliver of a crack of light in the door, but it can be just enough, at just the right time. And when that light has its way in us, over time, we are changed.
Our annual Laser show is a double-whammy, actually. Because not only do you find joy as you watch the lasers and listen to the music, every single cent that is paid goes right back out. (Aside from online fees) – it all goes back out to our community through our Deacons. It supports food programs and shelters for veterans and struggling moms, it supports children and families throughout our community – by way of organizations and direct needs, like fire victims! So as you’re enjoying the show, you’re also sowing seeds of joy in others!
And of course, that’s happening whenever we gather for worship, whenever we give towards the mission & ministry of our church. So many ministries are housed on our campus – from the Food Pantry and Thanksgiving Dinner to the Toy Chest and Recovery Groups, to Vacation Bible School and Daycare and many others. And when we contribute to the church… we’re partnering with each of these ministries and more! We’re sharing that light in so many ways!
Let the light in this coming week, and let it out too – share it, reflect it and let’s continue to grow a community of love and joy!
Welcoming You to Grow in Jesus, joyfully,
Pastor Don
