“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;  if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously…” – Romans 12:6-8
Dear Friends,

With Easter over (although we’re still in the Church season of Eastertide), Summer is fast approaching!  Our personal family plans are being ironed out as well as our church plans, which is what I want to make sure is on your calendar!

We have some VERY exciting things happening this Summer, and to ensure their success, we’re looking for your HELP.  We want to continue to be a church that grows, as we bless our community.  We know growth happens, in part, as we give of our time, talent and treasure and go with a purpose back into our homes, neighborhoods, community and places of work.  And there are FOUR key invitations that I’d like to offer you this Summer – where you can grow and you can help others grow as well, as you serve them.

First, we will be partnering with the Canonsburg United Methodist Church (across Pike Street) and the LeMoyne Center of Washington, PA, to provide free lunches to Canonsburg children and students throughout the Summer.  We’re looking for a handful of people to get the food from the Center in Washington, to the distribution in Canonsburg, and to help supervise the lunch.  We will be helping to host this on Tuesdays and Thursdays in June & July.  If you’d like more information or you’d like to sign up, please contact Claudia Phillips…

Second, we have our Vacation Bible School Program – where we expect over 200 kids to descend upon our campus to Roar, this July 6-10, learning Life is Wild and God is Good.  I’m especially excited because the skits this year… well… I just can’t wait to be king!  If you’d like to be a part of this wild week of fun and helping kids grow in Jesus, we’d LOVE to have you!  There’s room for everyone to lend a hand and be a blessing.  You can learn more or sign up to volunteer by contacting Jane Hultman…

Third, we’re partnering with Pine Springs Camp, Church of the Covenant and Thomas Presbyterian, who will host, a brand new Day Camp, August 3-7.  Spots for campers are filling up quickly, and spots for volunteer leaders are needed now!  Much like our VBS, there is room for all kinds of leaders to offer their time and expertise with crafts, games, crowd control and more, alongside the Volunteer Day Camp Director and PSC Day Camp Counselors.  If you’d like to hear more, or are ready to sign up, you can click this link or contact Cathy Stewart…

Fourth… our Summer ends by serving… The Best Food at the Fair, and we would LOVE you to help serve in the booth!  Whether you want to help load in the equipment (likely August 8) or load it out (likely August 22), fry fries, grill burgers, prep sandwiches, manage the register, take orders, or be some kind of jack-of-all helper wherever you’re needed, we’d absolutely love to have you!  Not only does the Fair fund kids and adults’ camp & retreating (like our Winter Retreat), it has helped fund Sight & Sound Bus trips, our 250th Celebrations and special projects across our church for years!  And it’s also an amazing way to build community, get connected and find joy working alongside new friends.  If you’ve got even a few hours on one day of the Fair (August 15-22), contact Cathy Stewart or Dan Dodd…

We grow as we give or share our time and talents, and as we go intentionally out into the world.  Amid your vacations and general fun this summer, I hope you will consider a way you can give & go here at Canonsburg UP – get it on your calendar now!

Welcoming You to Grow in Jesus this Summer,
Pastor Don
