The Miraculous Power of Prayer
What a wonderful gathering it was this past Sunday – our largest picnic & outdoor worship service in a decade – and this, on the heels of a successful week of serving the wider community with The Best Food at the Fair, Food Booth! Kudos far and wide to everyone who helped serve at the picnic as well as the Fair – your work is so appreciated!
But speaking of the Fair, there is an exciting event coming up in just over two weeks back at the Washington County Fairgrounds that you may have heard a little bit about. The Washington County Prayer Gathering will be, I believe, the first-ever of its kind in our area – with a goal of feeding 5,000 people. A pair of Christian recording artists (Jonathan Taylor & Jordan St. Cyr) and a 2-time All-American wrestler (Rocco Welsh) sharing his testimony, plus evangelist and keynote speaker (Mike MacIntosh) sharing a message and plenty of opportunity to pray together. There will also be a distribution of Coats for kids with Neighbor2Neighbor.
One of the best parts of our summers at Canonsburg UP is our worship and serving together – whether its a single 10a service, or volunteering for VBS or Pine Springs or our end-of-summer picnic and worship. You get the sense that, “oh yeah, I’m not alone – there are so many others that I don’t know well, but are standing and serving and worshipping alongside me!” And that’s part of what this event is.
There will be Brethrens and Baptists, Methodists and Presbyterians, Lutherans, Pentecostals, Nazarenes, Alliance and a host of Independent and Non-Denominational churches gathering together. Part of what we’ll be doing is reminding ourselves that despite all these names that divide us, we’re united together by Jesus. And whether we’re in Washington or Wellsburg, Morgantown or McMurray, Canonsburg or Claysville, Amity, Aleppo, Brownsville, Bridgeville, Burgettstown, Coal Center, Daisytown, Hickory, Houston, West Elizabeth or Upper St. Clair – we’re all together, bound in prayer and service to Jesus Christ because of God’s great love for us.
So come on out and if you’ve got the extra time – sign up to serve and volunteer for a bit. I look forward to seeing you Sunday morning for worship and later that afternoon for prayer, lunch and celebration at the Fairgrounds!
Welcoming You to Grow in Jesus – as we gather in prayer together again,
Pastor Don
